Bali - Island of the Gods

As soon as my time as Au Pair was over I left Australia for Bali with my mum.

We arrived around midnight after a short 4 hours flight at the airport in Denpasar and spent our first night in Bali at the Akana Boutique Hotel in Sanur which was a real oasis in the middle of all the chaos of this city.

The next day was mostly spent in the car on the way to our next destination int the east of Bali. We took a little break at the Pura Goa Lawah temple which was soo beautiful and calm!

After a three hours drive through the worst traffic I had seen in a while we arrived in the middle of paradise - at Shunyata Villas in Karangasem. The next three days were just perfect, filled with massages, naps, good food, breathtaking sunsets and pure relaxation.

As the three days were over we made our way to Ubud, a pretty busy town in the middle of Bali. On our way we stopped by at the Pura Tirta Empul temple.

Our hotel, Komaneka at Monkey Forest was right in the heart of the town and in walking distance to the famous Monkey Forest.

On our second day in Ubud we visited the monkeys at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. What an experience!! I was kind of scared of the monkeys, but my mum fell in love with them ha ha. But not only the monkeys are worth seeing, also the nature there is amazing. Afterwards we had a refreshing coconut at a very cool vintage coffee shop called Art Kafe.

The next day was spent strolling through the streets of Ubud, discovering hip coffee shops, cool clothing stores and other creative shops. In the evening we had an amazing dinner at Puspa`s Warung - this is a traditional, small and very delicious restaurant where the whole family cooks and serves dinner directly next to the street.

After we had spent three days in Ubud we drove via the huge Tegalalang rice terrace and the beautiful Tegenungan waterfall to the Gravity Hotel in Uluwatu, where we spent another three days relaxing and exploring Uluwatu.

On our second day in Uluwatu was spent at the Sunday's Beach Club with dinner at the Cashew Tree restaurant.

The next day we went visiting the Uluwatu temple, a temple directly built on the cliffs next to the ocean. Afterwards we had a fancy dinner at the Single Fin with a healthy desert from Nalu Bowls and started off into a very relaxed evening.

We planned to head to Seminyak after leaving Uluwatu, but we changed our plans and stopped at the Sal Secret Spot hotel which is a cute little hotel in between locals and directly at Bingin beach - a great idea that we stopped by here! We had our second breakfast at Kelly's Warung while watching the surfers.

On the 28th of January we headed to our last destination - a stylish Airbnb in Seminyak. After we arrived we strolled through the streets and saw this cool beauty salon called Therapy and so we got a quick pedicure and manicure before having a pretty spicy dinner at Mama San.

The next day we went to the Potato Head Beach Club and met Corinna, a friend of mine who I met in Perth, there. Afterwards we visited a typical flea market, had late lunch at the Sea Circus, a coffee at Sisterfields and a night swim in our pool before bed.

On our last day on Bali we had a very healthy and good breakfast at the Watercress café, a Cocktail and tacos at the Motel Mexicola and a spicy dinner at the Kreol Kitchen.

You could say that we ate most of the time we were on Bali ha ha!

On the 31th of January we arrived back in Perth, my mum sadly had to fly back to Germany again and I visited my host family again for three days, that is also when we had my farewell dinner at a lovely local restaurant and a last visit to the Caversham Wildlife Park with my hostdad and Finn - I held my first snake there!
